Melaine Thompson

Thanks for stopping by! My name is Melaine Thompson and I have a passion for DIY projects and interior design. Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of creating beautiful spaces. Even before I started grade school I was rearranging my bedroom on my own. My mom would drag me around to garage sales and thrift stores, and now I am doing the same with my kids. I am market editor for Souvenir, a lifestyle magazine. I also created the blog, My Sweet Savannah, to help spread my passion for design, and hopefully to give some of you some ideas on creating the home of your dreams. Take a look around and be inspired! I am also proud to say that my work has been featured in several magazines and websites.

A Sophisticated Gold and Silver Tree

What type of Balsam Hill tree do you have and how tall is it?
In our bedroom, I have the 6.5-foot tall Nordmann Fir. This tree was part of Balsam Hill’s 2014 “12 Bloggers of Christmas” series.

What mix of ornaments did you use for this tree?
I decorated it all in gold and silver to give it a sophisticated look. These are mostly balls, all with different textures. The ball ornaments are embellished with lots of glitter, some shiny and others in matte. Any other ornaments I had that fell into that category, I put up as well! At the last minute, I threw on some burlap ribbon I had lying around. I also found a couple of banners, one that says “Dream,” and another that says “Wish.”

How many ornaments did you use to achieve this look?
I didn’t count the ornaments, but I would say there are over 100.

Is there something different you did for this tree that you particularly like?
I just love having a tree in the bedroom, it’s truly magical, especially at night. I kinda want to leave it up year-round!
